Mass tort cases for Inglewood residents

Alongside injury work, Broukhim Legal PC takes on mass tort claims for people living in and around Inglewood. These cases are consolidated in federal or state court rather than heard locally, so where you live does not limit them.

Where is an Inglewood injury case filed, and what are the deadlines?

Under Los Angeles Superior Court Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(A), an unlimited civil action for bodily injury or wrongful death is filed in the judicial district where the incident arose. That puts an Inglewood incident in the Southwest District, at the Inglewood Courthouse on One Regent Street or the Torrance Courthouse at 825 Maple Avenue. The deadline is generally two years from the date of injury under Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1, and six months to present a written claim where a public entity is involved under Government Code section 911.2, in which case the shorter deadline governs. A claim against the City is presented to the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, One W. Manchester Boulevard, and the current form and accepted filing methods should be confirmed with that office.

Looking for a top-rated, trusted personal injury lawyer in Inglewood?

Here is what you get when you choose Broukhim Legal PC.

  • Direct access to your lawyer. Bejan Broukhim personally reviews your case and leads its strategy. You can speak directly with him about your case, and if another law firm is ever brought in, that happens only with your written consent.
  • Years of experience, fully licensed. Bejan Broukhim brings years of experience in California personal injury and mass tort law and holds an active California law license, State Bar number 183036.
  • Local knowledge of Inglewood. We know how an Inglewood claim works: which agency’s report it starts from, which Los Angeles Superior Court district hears it, and the six month deadline that applies when a public agency is involved. That means the early steps that protect your claim start on day one.
  • No fee unless we recover for you. You pay nothing up front. Your case is taken on a contingency fee, so the fee comes out of what is recovered, and if nothing is recovered you owe no fee. The written agreement, signed before any work starts, also explains how case costs are handled.
  • Ready for court. Every case is prepared from day one as though it will go to trial, so any settlement offer is measured against a case that is ready to be tried.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Inglewood questions, answered plainly.

The short answer is that it depends on three things: whether someone else’s carelessness caused the injury, what the medical record actually shows, and whether there is insurance that reaches the loss. Those are the questions the first conversation is for. It is free, it takes about half an hour, and if there is nothing worth pursuing you will be told that rather than signed up. Bring whatever you have: the collision or incident report if one exists, photographs, the name of anyone who treated you, and your own insurance policy, because your uninsured motorist coverage matters more in Inglewood than in most cities its size.

The first conversation costs nothing and creates no obligation. An Inglewood injury case is taken on a contingency fee, so there is nothing to pay up front and the fee is paid out of what is recovered. If there is no recovery, no fee is owed. The fee agreement is put in writing and signed before any work starts, which is what California law requires, and the costs of running the case are explained in that same agreement rather than left to the end. Ask about it on the first call.

Usually not, and in Inglewood it is a common situation rather than a rare one: the city ranks 2nd worst of 62 cities its size for hit and run. Where the other driver is never identified, the claim generally runs against the uninsured motorist coverage on your own policy, which many drivers carry without realising. That is a claim against your own insurer, a different posture from the start, and it carries notice requirements under the policy that can be much shorter than any statutory deadline. Report the collision to the police and to your own insurer promptly, even if nobody was caught, because both protect that coverage.

A claim for personal injury against any California public entity must be presented in writing within six months of the injury under Government Code section 911.2, and that deadline applies whether or not a city advertises it. Inglewood presents claims through the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, One W. Manchester Boulevard, Inglewood, CA 90301, on the City’s claim form, in person or by mail. The City’s published claim instructions state that faxed claim forms will not be accepted, and cite the City Charter, Article XXXVI, Section 27, as Inglewood is a charter city. Confirm the current form and the Clerk’s filing details with the Clerk’s office directly before sending anything, and keep proof of delivery. Six months is short and the City’s own paperwork is not the thing that stops the clock.

The Southwest District. Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(A) requires an unlimited civil injury or wrongful death case to be filed in the judicial district where the incident arose, and the Southwest District has two courthouses: the Inglewood Courthouse at One Regent Street and the Torrance Courthouse at 825 Maple Avenue. The Court’s guidance is that where a district has more than one location you use the courthouse address where you file, and clerical staff correct the summons if the case is assigned to the other one. So an Inglewood case may be heard in Torrance, which is normal.

It depends which bus, and the answer is often not Inglewood. Torrance Transit routes serve Downtown Inglewood Station, and Torrance Transit is a department of the City of Torrance, so a claim arising from one of its buses goes to the Torrance City Clerk at 3031 Torrance Blvd., by mail or in person only, within six months. The Metro K and C Lines also serve Inglewood, and a Metro claim goes to Metro’s own legal services office, which accepts claims only in person or by mail and rejects claims sent by email. Identifying the right public entity early is not a formality here: present to the wrong one and the deadline can pass against the right one.

General information about California law, not legal advice, and no attorney-client relationship is created by reading it. Deadlines and outcomes turn on the facts of your own matter, so have yours reviewed. By submitting, you agree that Broukhim Legal PC may contact you about your inquiry by phone, text or email.
