The first conversation is free and carries no obligation. The scope of the work and the fees are agreed with you in writing before any work starts, and the matter is planned from day one as though it will go to trial. If what happened to you is not on that list, it is still worth asking.

Mass tort cases for Pasadena residents

Alongside injury work, Broukhim Legal PC takes on mass tort claims for people living in and around Pasadena. These cases are consolidated in federal or state court rather than heard locally, so where you live does not limit them.

Where is a Pasadena injury case filed, and what are the deadlines?

Under Los Angeles Superior Court Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(A), an unlimited civil action for bodily injury or wrongful death is filed in the judicial district where the incident arose. That puts a Pasadena incident in the Northeast District, at the Pasadena Courthouse, 300 East Walnut Street, or the Alhambra Courthouse, 150 West Commonwealth. The deadline is generally two years from the date of injury under Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1, and six months to present a written claim where a public entity is involved under Government Code section 911.2, in which case the shorter deadline governs. A claim against the City uses the form titled “Claim Against the City of Pasadena (For Damages to Persons or Personal Property),” presented to the City Clerk’s Office at 100 N. Garfield Ave., Room S228, in person, by mail, or through the City’s online claims portal, with the claims line on (626) 744-4333. The City then has 45 days to act under section 912.4, and sections 913 and 945.6 govern what happens after a rejection.

Looking for a top-rated, trusted personal injury lawyer in Pasadena?

Here is what you get when you choose Broukhim Legal PC.

  • Direct access to your lawyer. Bejan Broukhim personally reviews your case and leads its strategy. You can speak directly with him about your case, and if another law firm is ever brought in, that happens only with your written consent.
  • Years of experience, fully licensed. Bejan Broukhim brings years of experience in California personal injury and mass tort law and holds an active California law license, State Bar number 183036.
  • Local knowledge of Pasadena. We know how a Pasadena claim works: which agency’s report it starts from, which Los Angeles Superior Court district hears it, and the six month deadline that applies when a public agency is involved. That means the early steps that protect your claim start on day one.
  • No fee unless we recover for you. You pay nothing up front. Your case is taken on a contingency fee, so the fee comes out of what is recovered, and if nothing is recovered you owe no fee. The written agreement, signed before any work starts, also explains how case costs are handled.
  • Ready for court. Every case is prepared from day one as though it will go to trial, so any settlement offer is measured against a case that is ready to be tried.

Your first conversation is free, confidential and carries no obligation. Tell us what happened in Pasadena and find out where you stand.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Pasadena questions, answered plainly.

The short answer is that it depends on three things: whether someone else’s carelessness caused the injury, what the medical record actually shows, and whether there is insurance that reaches the loss. Those are the questions the first conversation is for. It is free, it takes about half an hour, and if there is nothing worth pursuing you will be told that rather than signed up. Bring whatever you have: the collision or incident report if one exists, photographs, the name of anyone who treated you, and your own insurance policy. Pasadena sends collision reports to a third-party vendor, crashdocs.org, which sets its own price, so the report can arrive on someone else’s timetable and is not worth waiting on.

The first conversation costs nothing and creates no obligation. A Pasadena injury case is taken on a contingency fee, so there is nothing to pay up front and the fee is paid out of what is recovered. If there is no recovery, no fee is owed. The fee agreement is put in writing and signed before any work starts, which is what California law requires, and the costs of running the case are explained in that same agreement rather than left to the end. Ask about it on the first call.

The Northeast District. Local Rule 2.3(a)(1)(A) requires an unlimited civil injury or wrongful death case to be filed in the judicial district where the incident arose, and that district has two courthouses: the Pasadena Courthouse at 300 East Walnut Street and the Alhambra Courthouse at 150 West Commonwealth. The Court’s own guidance is that where a district has more than one location, you use the courthouse address where you file and the clerk corrects the summons if the case is assigned elsewhere. So the district is fixed, and the building is not entirely in your hands.

Often, yes, and Pasadena documents more than most cities its size. Its 2022 Local Roadway Safety Plan ranks intersections and segments by collision count over 2015 to 2019, and its October 2025 Focused Local Roadway Safety Action Plan names eight Safety Corridors: Arroyo Parkway, Colorado Boulevard, Fair Oaks Avenue, Lake Avenue, Los Robles Avenue, Marengo Avenue, Washington Boulevard and Sunset Avenue. Where a collision happened on a location the City has already identified as high risk, that record is relevant to what the City knew and when. It does not decide a case on its own, but it changes the conversation.

Because the City’s own table puts it there. In the 2022 Local Roadway Safety Plan, four of the five highest-collision intersections in Pasadena are on Lake Avenue: Lake and Orange Grove with 69 collisions, Corson and Lake with 46, Lake and Washington with 45, and Lake and Maple with 44, over 2015 to 2019. Lake Avenue from Mountain Street to California Boulevard is the second worst roadway segment, with 114 collisions. The City is now spending $9.9 million of Caltrans Active Transportation Program Cycle 6 money on North Lake Avenue between Mountain Street and Maple Street, a 0.6 mile stretch carrying around 36,800 vehicles on an average weekday, with final design expected in 2026 and construction beginning in 2027.

Pasadena Transit and Pasadena Dial-A-Ride are services of the City of Pasadena’s own Department of Transportation, delivered through a contract operator. That means a claim runs against the City, through the City Clerk’s Office, on the six-month Government Code section 911.2 deadline, with the contract operator as a possible additional defendant. Pasadena Transit can be reached on (626) 744-4055 and Dial-A-Ride on (626) 744-4094. A Metro bus or train injury in Pasadena is a different claim again, presented to Metro’s own legal services office rather than to the City.

General information about California law, not legal advice, and no attorney-client relationship is created by reading it.
